During the 60th Venice Biennale “Unapologetic WomXn: The Dream is the Truth,” curated by Destinee Ross-Sutton, NY & Stockholm, presents an international group exhibition, hosted by the European Culture Center at Palazzo Bembo, consisting of 33 female artists on the subject of female sexuality through their own eyes.

Stella Kapezanou’s painting is a lush depiction of Ivy Getty, a contemporary American heiress, portrayed with the girls from the Toulouse Lautrec “In the Salon at the Rue des Moulins” painting. Making the work a clever commentary on privilege, some will recognize the wallpaper from the Annabel’s members club in London where photos are not allowed, yet everyone posts secret selfies from the restrooms, to make a statement that they were there, a membership at Annabel’s being considered a status symbol.

Stella Kapezanou a @the_fulbright_program fellow, who just finished the Santa Fe Art Institute’s International Thematic Residency Program in New Mexico, USA @santafeartinstitute. Her NY show “Cornmaidens” just opened @openinggallery. Kapezanou is exploring the concept of Sovereignty as a power emanating from the female body, further developing the research that characterizes her recent paintings around issues of gender, bodily autonomy, and self-determination.
